About the book:

The Godfather is a wrongdoing novel by American creator Mario Puzo. Initially distributed in 1969 by G. P. Putnam's Sons, the novel subtleties the account of an anecdotal Mafia family in New York City (and Long Beach, New York), headed by Vito Corleone. Puzo's devotion for The Godfather is "For Anthony Cleri". The epic's epigraph is by the French creator Honoré de Balzac: "Behind each extraordinary fortune there is a wrongdoing." The tale covers the years 1945 to 1955 and gives the back story of Vito Corleone from youth to adulthood. The first in a progression of books, The Godfather is critical for presenting Italian words like consigliere, caporegime, Cosa Nostra, and omertà to an English-talking crowd. It motivated a 1972 film of a similar name. Two film spin-offs, including new commitments by Puzo himself, were made in 1974 and 1990. The initial two movies are broadly held in high regard as instances of the true to life expressions.
